Chemicals in Tobacco
There are over 4000 chemicals in tobacco smoke:
- Ammonia - a colorless gas or liquid that has a strong smell and taste and that is used especially in cleaning products
- Arsenic - a colorless gas or liquid that has a strong smell and taste and that is used especially in cleaning products.
- Butane - a type of gas that is used in a liquid form as a fuel usually for cooking, heating, and lighters
- Cadmium - a bluish-white metal that is used especially in protective coatings and in batteries
- Cyanide - a very poisonous chemical often used in jewelry-making, as insecticides for fumigating ships, killing ants and rats
- Formaldehyde - a chemical that is used to prevent decay in the dead bodies of people and animals
- Methane - a colorless gas that has no smell and that can be burned for fuel
- Polonium 210 - a highly radioactive and chemically toxic element, used in nuclear physics and on brushes for dust removal from photographic film.
